The mayoral race in Windsor is getting nasty.
Candidate Matt Marchand announced his economic plan on Wednesday to align city spending with what he calls community priorities like basement flooding prevention and road and sewer improvements.
“It’s time to match community needs with investment,” said Marchand.
He said he can save almost $48 million over the next 10 years for extra community projects by eliminating, reducing and reallocating $226.75 million of city spending. Marchand said some savings would come from eliminating the Riverside Drive and Bruce Avenue underpasses, reducing sports tourism commitments and reforming ENWIN Utilities.
Marchand would also speed up the Sewer Master Plan for quicker relief of flooded basements from 10 to six years but adds he would apply a one per cent tax increase to help fund his $179.3 million platform, including addressing homelessness and the opioid crisis in the core.
Mayor Drew Dilkens said Marchand's "numbers don’t add up and there is no room for on the job training in the mayor's office."
