Employees at one of Windsor-Essex's top banquet halls are hoping to have a new contract in place.
About a hundred members of Unifor Local 240 who work at the Caboto Club in Windsor, who are primarily servers, cooks, dishwashers, and bartenders, are negotiating with club management to put together their first collective bargaining agreement before a Tuesday night deadline.
Caboto Club management applied for conciliation last month, which means that both sides will be in a lockout and legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
Unifor Local 240 President Jodi Nesbitt said she has complete confidence that a fair deal can be reached in time.
"I am very optimistic that a first collective agreement that is fair and respectful can be reached by both parties before the deadline,” said Nesbitt. “It should recognize the many years of loyalty these workers have given the Caboto Club. They deserve an agreement that will raise the working conditions of these workers above where Doug Ford wants Ontarians to be.”
The employees agreed to join the union back in March and bargaining began in August.
