A Windsor councillor is happy a complaint against him has been dropped by the city's integrity commissioner.
In March, Rino Bortolin was accused by Edy Haddad of Windsor of swearing, bullying, and using intimidation tactics after a hotly contested meeting to elect the executive of the Windsor West Liberal Riding Association.
Bortolin previously admitted to using profanity but says he always knew the bullying complaint was frivolous.
"I respect the finding that he's not going to look at this. It was an issue between two private individuals and that's how it will stay," says Bortolin.
Haddad says the integrity commissioner found the complaint to be outside of his jurisdiction and respects Bruce Elman's decision.
"I'm sure I could have asked for a judicial review but Mr. Bortolin has apologized," says Haddad.
Bortolin is seeking re-election in Ward 3 in the October 22 municipal election. He is glad it is behind him so everybody can move on and considers such complaints a waste of tax dollars.
"When you start adding up the time that the Integrity Commissioner has spent on baseless claims usually stemming from political gain, it's unfortunate," Bortolin says.
Haddad considers the matter over and hopes it doesn't happen again. But he says you can't treat people like that and expect to get away with it.
"We are going to be at many different events together in the future and hopefully, he decides to act in a manner that better represents his community and the position that he is in," Haddad says.
Bortolin says he doesn't really feel vindicated or relieved. He just wants to continue working for Ward 3.
"I'm glad it's done and put behind us and hopefully we can stop talking about it and start talking about the issues in the ward," says Bortolin.
