City prepares July Ontario Works cheques for distribution

As the labour dispute at Canada Post drags on, the City of Windsor wants to make sure cheques go out on time.

The city will once again implement its contingency plan to ensure Ontario Works recipients receive their income support cheques and reloadable payment cards.

Those who receive their payments through direct deposit will continue to do so, but those who receive their payments through the mail can pick up their July cheques on Monday.

Those will be available at 400 City Hall Square East, Suite 102, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or at the Leamington Office at 33 Princess Street between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Vendors and landlords that support Ontario Works will still receive their money in the mail.

Daily cheques will still be available for pickup.

The city cautions those picking up their cheques that they'll need two pieces of government identification, one with a photo. Cheques must be picked up in person.

Before going to the cheque distribution centre, the city recommends calling ahead to 1-800-808-2268 to ensure the cheque is printed and ready for distribution.

Recipients can also check the status of their payments on the MyBenefits app.
