The Labour Force Survey for December has some good news for Windsor's economy.
Statistics Canada said unemployment dipped down to 5.4 per cent last month from six per cent in November. Compared to December 2017, the rate decreased 0.6 per cent.
At the same time, the percentage of people participating in the labour force increased locally. The labour participation rate rose 0.3 per cent to 60.4 per cent in December, an increase of 0.3 per cent from December 2017.
The national jobless rate did not change in December. It was 5.6 per cent. Over the past year, the Canadian economy has added 163,000 net positions, almost all of them full-time, while total hours worked was up 0.9 per cent.
The rate did not change in Ontario either; remaining the same as in November, 5.4 per cent. Ontario added 78,000 net positions in 2018.
