So far, it looks like residents in Lakeshore will pay a little more in property taxes in 2019.
Lakeshore Town Council has accepted a draft budget that calls for a 1.5 per cent increase in property tax bills. That works out to another $17.70 for the average residential property valued at $200,000. The increase will add another $989,000 in tax revenue.
"Over the last few months, council has worked with administration to deliver a budget that balances fiscal responsibility with an emphasis on roads and infrastructure," said Mayor Tom Bain.
Lakeshore is the fastest growing municipality in Essex County, and as residential development grows, so grows the need for better roads to handle the volume of traffic.
With grants from the provincial and federal governments, the town plans to embark on $20.9 million in capital projects. In addition to road projects, the budget includes improvements to flood and stormwater systems.
The budget also calls for sustainability and community planning for Lighthouse Cove and Emeryville, implementing electronic permitting, increasing bylaw compliance, and an enhanced parks maintenance program.
Councillors will give the budget final approval on March 19.
