If your daily commute involves Riverside Drive East, you'll have to make adjustments starting Monday.
The City of Windsor is resuming the long-term Riverside Vista improvement project after a winter break, weather permitting. A portion of the drive in the Riverside section of the city will be closed. Anna Godo, a senior engineer with the city, tells BlackburnNewsWindsor.com the work this time around will be more involved, and this means commuters will have to adapt.
"Unlike last time, when they were maintaining single lanes and it was possible to drive through the construction zone, this time around that's not likely to happen," said Godo.
To that end, the drive will be closed between Dieppe Street and the Solidarity Towers, with only local traffic permitted. A detour is being posted and Transit Windsor buses will be diverted to a detour.
Godo said during this round of construction, plenty will take place within a time span of three months.
"We're looking at new water mains, a storm and sanitary sewer, a new curb and gutter, a road with on-road bike lanes and sidewalks on the south side from the previous phase because we had not completed the Lauzon-to-Dieppe work," said Godo.
The previous stage of work had gone on from June to December 2018. It is part of an ambitious plan to transform the Drive between the Ambassador Bridge and the Tecumseh town line. The focus on the East Riverside area involves new storm drains and sanitary sewers, along with features designed to slow traffic down in that two-lane residential area.
This portion of the work is expected to be complete in June. For complete information about the Riverside Vista project and on detours, call 311 or visit the city's official website.
