The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) has downgraded its flood warning in Kingsville and Leamington to a flood watch.
The ERCA said shifting winds have dropped lake levels over the last 24 hours and flood waters have subsided out of the Kingsville Area. However, the conservation authority added that locations in Leamington that were previously flooded currently have standing water in areas than can still have some hidden dangers.
Forecasts are predicting for winds to reach above 30 km/hr by Sunday morning. Areas with the highest probability of flooding include Leamington between Wheatley Harbour and Point Pelee National Park, the Lake Erie shoreline including Pelee Island, the Lake St. Clair shoreline from Windsor to Belle River and the Detroit River Shoreline.
ERCA officials said road closures could still be in effect in the Cotterie Park area in Leamington. It also said areas along the Lake Erie shoreline may continue to experience some flooding from splashing waves.
People are advised to avoid areas where road closures are in effect, the shoreline, and/or where local municipalities are cleaning up debris and removing sand. The ERCA added that waves overtopping breakwalls and shorelines can be extremely dangerous.
The flood watch is in effect until Monday.
