Flood warning issued for Essex region

The local conservation authority is warning Essex County residents that flooding is occurring or may occur in a number of areas.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning for the area Monday night. Wind speeds of over 30 km/h, with gusts in the 50 km/h range, are expected on Tuesday and into Wednesday, which will raise water levels further, the conservation authority said.

Flooding has already occurred Leamington, specifically in the Cotterie Park Road area between Wheatley Harbour and the tip of Point Pelee.  The weather conditions may also cause flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline including Pelee Island, the Lake St. Clair shoreline and the Detroit River shoreline.

The conservation authority is advising residents to avoid areas rivers, streams, and shoreline areas due to potentially dangerous conditions.
