Windsor police adds online reporting options

For those in Windsor or Amherstburg wanting to report certain crimes, the Windsor Police Service is expanding its online options.

The service announced this week that several additional options have been added to its online reporting system. Residents can currently use it to report crimes such as sexual assault, theft and mischief, as well as traffic enforcement issues.

Residents in Windsor and Amherstburg can now report fraud and drug-related crime on the website. Constable Talya Natyshak said crimes covered under the fraud heading are identity theft, use of a cheque or credit card to withdraw money from a bank account without the cardholders' consent, scams, and failure to provide services previously paid for.

Drug-related issues that can now be reported online include illegal use or drug dealing, which includes underage consumption; and illegal production, which includes growing and selling marijuana in ways other than the current legal provincial web sale system.

Anyone who submits an online report can receive a free copy of the police report, including a case number, once it has has been approved.

Natyshak said other online services such as the bicycle registry, the vulnerable persons' registry, and autism registry are also available, which can provide officers with vital information in a timely manner during investigations. Police also remind people that in a life-or-death emergency, they should call 911.

Complete information about the online reporting system is available on the WPS official website.
