Windsor Assembly short shifting after Ohio tornadoes

A catastrophic weather event in Ohio means temporary changes in shifts at Chrysler's Windsor Assembly Plant.

Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles Canada confirmed Thursday morning that it will be short-shifting at the plant until further notice, due to an issue at one of its US-based auto part suppliers. LouAnn Gosselin, FCA Canada's head of communications, said that tornadoes in the Dayton, Ohio area have resulted in the disruption.

"Due to a shortage of parts sourced from a supplier impacted by the severe weather in Indiana and Ohio, Windsor Assembly Plant production shifts are being shortened," said Gosselin in an email to BlackburnNewsWindsor.com. "FCA US continues to monitor the situation as recovery efforts progress."

According to posts on an unofficial Facebook page belonging to Mahle, a supplier in Dayton, there is no power at the plant. Employees posted that they were waiting outside for instructions and were not being allowed inside.

It is not known when operations will return to normal at Windsor Assembly.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that 17 tornadoes touched down in southwest Ohio on Tuesday night, breaking a record of 12 set in 2012. One person was killed. According to Dayton Power and Light, over 23,000 customers were without power as of Thursday morning.
