Feedback sought for ongoing transit review

Transit Windsor is counting on the public to help shape its vision for the future.

Public engagement for the service's long-term route and business plan continued with a public open house Wednesday afternoon in the lobby of Windsor City Hall. The open house was part of a year-long service review of Transit Windsor's current operations, routes, policies and performance targets. Findings for this review are largely shaped on comment provided by residents to help formulate changes for the months and years ahead.

The review is an effort of Transit Windsor and Dillon Consulting, which was scheduled to provide a progress report of the review to Windsor City Council's environment, transportation and public safety standing committee at their meeting Wednesday. The standing committee acts as the Transit Windsor board.

Pat Delmore, executive director of Transit Windsor, said they want to take their time to ensure the right operational plan is put into place.

"They've taken all of the work that they've done over the past number of months, from public consultation to looking at our peers, looking at our service and looking at how we provide service here in the city of Windsor, and putting together a draft plan," said Delmore.

The public has a big stake in that process through the project's official website. Not only can people take a survey, but Delmore said they can also use the website to provide feedback on current or future routes.

"You can actually see all of the potential routes that are there for people to comment on," said Delmore. "What they do is if they see a portion of a route that they like, they can click on it, they can make a comment with a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down. It's those comments that will help formulate what the final plan will look like in the fall."

So far, over 2,000 people have responded to the survey, and Delmore said there is time for more people to sound off. Transit Windsor and Dillon Consulting will put together the plan by the end of the summer, in preparation for it to go before city council in the fall.
