Unemployment in Windsor grew last month according to Statistics Canada's Labour Force Survey.
The survey said the jobless rate ticked 0.2 per cent upwards to 5.9 per cent in July, while the labour participation rate dipped 1.2 per cent to 61.2 per cent.
More than 170,000 Windsorites were working, while 10,600 were collecting employment insurance benefits.
Across the country, the jobless rate also increased by 0.2 per cent to 5.7 per cent. Statistics Canada said more people were looking for work.
When the numbers are calculated using criteria used in the U.S., the jobless rate was 4.6 per cent, compared to 3.7 per cent across the border. The labour participation rate was 65.5 per cent, while it was 63 per cent in the U.S.
Employment in Canada grew in public administration by 9,200 jobs, mostly in Ontario. However, it contracted in wholesale and retail, transportation and warehousing, and in the personal care industry.
Ontario's unemployment rate did not change much for the second consecutive month. It was up 0.3 per cent to 5.7 per cent.
