Windsor police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another after a string of unfounded 911 calls.
Police said several bogus 911 calls came from a house in the 1500 block of Hickory Avenue between April and August and launched an investigation after receiving a formal complaint. Investigators said the false calls for service often required priority-one first response, such as a report of shots-fired, stabbings, and robberies.
"Both suspects will be charged with public mischief for falsely reporting an offence that did not occur," said police.
One suspect is a youth and cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The second suspect, who is also a youth, has a warrant out for his arrest but he is not being identified to protect his identity.
Police said the 911 system exists to help everyone and it should never be intentionally abused.
"In this matter, investigators were satisfied that the 911 calls were made to intentionally report false incidents that did not occur," police added. "Such actions are illegal, tie up valuable first responder resources from true emergencies, and place our community at risk."
