Services set for LaSalle woman killed in the Bahamas

A LaSalle woman who died in the fury of Hurricane Dorian will be remembered this coming weekend.

Alishia Liolli, who grew up in LaSalle but had been living and working in the Bahamas as a social worker, died on September 1 when Dorian slammed into the northwestern Bahamas. A GoFundMe page had been set up to raise funds to repatriate her remains back to Canada.

According to the obituary published by Families First Funeral Home, Alishia is being remembered as a compassionate person who went above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need. At the time of her passing, she was working with special-needs children at a Bahamian school.

Alishia is survived by her partner Cialin Dany, her son Evans, and her step-children, Kescianna and Andrea Dany. She is also survived by parents Giancarlo Liolli and Josie McDonagh, sister Gianni Liolli, and grandparents Giovanni and Leonardo Liolli with Raffaele and Impera Coco. She is also survived by three sets of aunts and uncles, plus numerous cousins, friends and colleagues in Canada and the Bahamas.

A cremation service for Alishia has already been held, according to the funeral home.

A memorial visitation will take place Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., then 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Families First on Dougall Avenue in Windsor. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

A visitation will also take place beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday at Assumption Church in Windsor, followed by a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Alishia be provided to Autism Services of Windsor and Essex County.
