LaSalle experiences flooding

Several streets and properties in LaSalle are currently dealing with flooding.

Sections of Front Road are getting hit the hardest according to a media release sent out by town officials Monday afternoon.

As a result, the streets west of Front Road in LaSalle are closed for the time being. In addition, the LaSalle Recreational Trails located along Turkey Creek at Matchette Road are closed due to overland flooding. The LaSalle Boat Ramp has also been shut down.

Anyone living in the impacted areas is being reminded that emergency service response may be delayed.

"Residents who are experiencing flooding and are concerned about their safety should find alternative accommodations," stated the release. "Residents who are voluntarily evacuating their home should call the Town at 519-969-4143 to register so that town administration are aware of alternate contact information...[and] also contact their utility companies to shut off services."

People are being asked to avoid areas where flooding is occurring, as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas. Anyone who has experienced flooding in their home is also reminded not to enter a basement that has water in it.

"The rain is expected to continue over the next 24 hours and sustained winds for the next 36 hours," read the release. "Residents are encouraged to pay attention to local conditions. Town officials continue to monitor conditions in the area."

Due to strong easterly winds, a flood warning has been issued by the Essex Region Conservation Authority for LaSalle and the surrounding areas:

  • Leamington
  • Kingsville
  • Amherstburg
The warning remains in effect until Wednesday.
