Essex County OPP officers handed out over 300 tickets to traffic violators over the long weekend.
Most of the tickets, 222, were for speeding on area roadways. Tickets were also issued for impaired driving, stunt racing, seatbelt violations and distracted driving.
"Essex County OPP continues to be vigilant with regard to safety on our roadways, trails and waterways. Driving remains a privilege and a speed sign is not a suggestion but the law," said Inspector Glenn Miller, with the Essex County OPP. "The instances of impaired drivers is a serious concern. With so many options now available for drivers to travel safely home, please choose the right one, which doesn't involve you operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Be smart with your decision."
There were three impaired driving charges, seven alcohol warn range suspensions and five other charges under the Liquor Licence Act laid over the weekend.
Across Ontario, the provincial police laid 8,200 traffic-related charges during its long-weekend safety blitz.
