The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported only three new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
That follows a spike of 17 cases on Tuesday.
"It reminds you that the disease still exists and whatever we are experiencing, whatever we are seeing right now, it can immediately change," said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed.
Among the new cases reported Wednesday are two close contacts of a previously confirmed case. One case remains under investigation.
Dr. Ahmed said the good thing is most cases remain among close contacts.
"It's not separate individuals who contracted the disease separately in the community, which would pose that there is an ongoing transmission that is happening out there with people whether not knowing about their diagnosis or people who are not following their isolation recommendation," said Dr. Ahmed.
There are 42 active cases in the community and two people in the hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19.
There are no new outbreaks to report.
In Ontario, 834 new COVID-19 cases were identified out of over 30,000 tests completed. There were 299 new cases in Toronto, 186 in Peel, 121 in York Region, and 76 in Ottawa.
