No charges in fatal pedestrian collision

No charges are anticipated in the collision that killed a pedestrian earlier this month.

The incident happened on October 14 at 11:30 p.m. on Wyandotte Street East and George Avenue. The road was closed for nearly 16 hours as the Windsor Police Service Reconstruction Unit investigated.

Detectives were also able to review surveillance video involving the incident and spoke to many witnesses.

Police determined the man was struck by the vehicle that was seized as part of the investigation.  However, no charges against the involved driver are anticipated. The incident remains under active investigation.

"The Windsor Police Service would like to remind the community of the importance of pedestrian traffic to see and be seen. Be aware of your surroundings, be conscious of how others using the roadways may or may not be able to see you. High-visibility, light coloured clothing, with reflective qualities, is suggested. Nights are getting longer and darker as winter approaches Halloween is this coming weekend and an increase in pedestrian traffic should be expected. It is vital that pedestrians and cyclists can be easily seen by other road users," said Sergeant Steve Betteridge.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police Service at 519-255-6700 ext. 4000, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com.
