The Essex Region Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for the shores of Lake Erie, including Pelee Island and along Lake St. Clair.
Strong winds are forecast throughout the weekend, and they are not expected to die down until Tuesday.
Right now, the prediction is the wind will come out of the south at 40 km/h and increase as it shifts to the southwest.
Elevated lake levels and high winds mean there is the risk of flooding, damaging waves, wave overtopping, splashing, spray, and shoreline erosion in Amherstburg, Kingsville, Essex, Leamington west of Point Pelee National Park, and on Pelee Island.
On Lake St. Clair, there could be flooding along the shore from Belle River to Lighthouse Cove.
The Municipality of Leamington and the County of Essex are being advised to monitor flood control dykes and flooding on Point Pelee Drive.
In the City of Windsor, officials are asked to watch water levels along flood control dykes within the Little River Drain corridor.
