The town of LaSalle is the latest to change how services will be handled during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Effective Thursday morning, the LaSalle Civic Centre will be closed to everyone except for staff members and visitors with pre-arranged appointments only. Municipal staff will be available to answer inquiries by phone, email, and in-person appointments. The changes are being made to address the region being in "red", or control pandemic status, along with the rising number of cases locally.
LaSalle is the third Windsor-Essex municipality to restrict access to its offices. Amherstburg made the change last week, while Kingsville followed suit on Monday.
A drop-off location will be available inside the building for people to leave correspondence like applications, building plans, maps, and so on. The outdoor drop box will also be available.
For the LaSalle branch of the Essex County Library, a pick-up location just inside the building entrance will be set up for items borrowed.
Regardless of the reason or the duration of any visit to the civic centre, visitors will be required to wear a mask or a face shield.
Requests for services made after business hours or on weekends will be handled during business hours, which are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. After-hours issues that may require a faster response, such as malfunctioning traffic lights or road flooding, should be reported by calling (519) 969-4143. Life-or-death emergencies should be reported by calling 911.

The town also announced Wednesday afternoon that its drive-by Santa Parade, scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled following consultation with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit.
