The tumultuous year of 2020 is now history, and with 2021 underway, many area businesses are closed or on shortened hours.
All municipal offices in Windsor-Essex have been closed to most in-person service due to COVID-19, however there will be no service available on Friday, New Year's Day. The same applies to federal and provincial offices.
There will be no Canada Post delivery. All Service Ontario branches are closed, while some transactions can be performed online.
Many big-box stores and restaurants will be closed or on abbreviated hours. Bars and restaurants that are open will be for takeout, drive-through, and curbside service only. Retailers are also subject to regulations. Call ahead to avoid a wasted trip.
Devonshire Mall, Tecumseh Mall, and Windsor Crossing outlet mall are closed Friday.
Both The Beer Store and all LCBO outlets are closed New Year's Day, with regular hours resuming Saturday.
All four public school boards in Windsor-Essex reopen on Monday, January 4, with remote learning for all students. Elementary students are scheduled to return to school buildings on January 11.
The University of Windsor's winter semester begins January 7 with most programs online. At St. Clair College, programs with a regulatory body resume on January 11, with all other classes beginning January 18.
Windsor Public Library branches are closed Friday, and reopen Saturday with curbside service only. The same goes for the Essex County Library, with curbside services resuming Saturday at select branches.
The city of Windsor's 311 call centre will be closed New Year’s Day, but the 211 call centre will be open 24 hours as usual.
Commercial garbage collection will take place as usual Friday, but residential garbage pickup will be delayed. Please refer to your collection schedule and plan accordingly.
The public drop-off and household chemical waste depot at E.C. Row and Central Ave will be closed New Year’s Day. Regular business hours during the winter are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All Windsor community centres, customer care branches, indoor swimming pools, and arenas are closed until further notice due to the city's COVID-19 reduced service protocols. Adventure Bay Family Water Park is closed indefinitely.
There will be no parking enforcement in Windsor on New Year's Day, and all metered parking will be free. Garages and service lots will be paid as normal. Parking enforcement payment offices will be closed, though payments can still be made online.
Transit Windsor will operate on a modified Sunday schedule on New Year's Day. Check their website for more information. The tunnel bus service to Detroit is suspended until further notice.
