For those who love to complain about the state of our roads, the CAA's Worst Roads campaign is back.
The annual campaign was put on a hiatus last year because of the pandemic, but voting opened Tuesday for those who want to nominate the road they love to hate.
"The campaign is a platform for all road users to highlight which roadway improvements should be prioritized by our different levels of government," said Government Relations Manager Raymond Chan. "This campaign gives decision-makers a snapshot of what roads the public perceives are not meeting their expectations."
And, the CAA says it works.
College Avenue in Windsor is a past worst of the worst nominee, but since 2019, the intersection of College and Campbell Avenue has undergone sewer, road, and watermain rehabilitation. College has also undergone work between Brock and South Street.
Huron Church Road is another local road that made the list a few times. Over the past few years, the provincial and municipal governments have spent $8.5-million on repairs. More work gets underway this spring.
"Our roads are essential. They are the arteries used every day to keep workers, goods, and services flowing, and should be maintained more than ever," said Chan. "As people are encouraged to stay home and telework during the pandemic, governments should continue to take advantage of lighter traffic patterns as an opportunity for road repair."
