Windsor police have cited four drivers for treating area roadways like their own personal racetracks.
The citations were issued by officers who were conducting traffic enforcement on Wednesday.
One of those officers was watching the traffic on the south end of the city, in a speed zone marked at 60 kilometres per hour. Constable Talya Natyshak said three drivers were stopped for going speeds ranging from 114 to 136 kilometres per hour.
A second officer was monitoring traffic along Wyandotte Street East, in a zone with a 50 kilometre per hour speed limit. A fourth driver was clocked at 101 kilometres per hour, just over twice that limit.
All four drivers were cited for stunt driving and given a court summons. They will also have to rely on walking or alternate transportation for a week, as their licences are suspended for seven days and their vehicles impounded.
Natyshak said one of the drivers had been stopped and cited for speeding two days prior in a separate incident.
"Driving at excessive speeds puts the lives of our community members at risk and is unacceptable," said Natyshak. "Many fatal collisions are a direct result of speed. All drivers have a shared responsibility to keep our roadways safe."
