The latest airline to announce it will return to service at the Windsor International Airport is Porter Airlines.
Its flight schedule will return in phases, with flights from Windsor to Toronto not expected to start up again until October 6.
Porter will offer two flights a day.
"This is the moment our team members, passengers, and the communities we serve have been waiting for," said President and CEO Michael Deluce. "The pandemic has progressed to the point that we can now begin restoring service across our network."
The initial group of destinations will start on September 8 between Toronto and Ottawa, Montreal, and Thunder Bay, and from Ottawa to Halifax.
A week after, flights from Montreal to Halifax, Quebec City and Toronto, and Halifax to St. John's will return. The flight between Ottawa and Moncton will start on September 17.
U.S. routes will also start on September 17 between Toronto and New York City, Boston, Chicago, and Washington.
If COVID-19 complicates travel in the months to come, Porter will make all fares booked between June 20 and December 15 fully refundable, with no fees. It also applies to Porter's vacation packages.
Porter suspended service 18 months ago because of the pandemic.
"Being grounded for more than a year has been incredibly difficult for everyone involved," added Deluce. "While deciding to suspend our service was the most difficult business decision we've made, announcing a restart of flights is the first step in a recovery process that includes recalling hundreds of team members."
About 500 employees will be recalled at first, with more added in the months to come.
