Suspect identified in Windsor sexual assault

Windsor police are looking for assistance in finding a man believed to have sexually assaulted a woman in the downtown core.

The Major Crime Unit said it happened around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, at a bus shelter on Ouellette Avenue and Ellis Street. The female victim told police she was approached by a male suspect. The man allegedly made unwanted sexual advances toward the woman before reaching over and touching her inappropriately.

The man then ran south on Ouellette Avenue and disappeared westbound on Shepherd Street West, according to Constable Darius Goze.

Police have obtained surveillance camera footage of the suspect and are asking the public to take a look.

The man is described as between 30 and 40 years old, 5' 7" with a large build, and black hair with a "mullet" style cut. He was wearing a black hat, black shoes, a surgical mask under his chin, a hoodie, and camouflage shorts. He was carrying a pack of toilet paper under one arm and a pack of paper towels under the other.

Goze said sexual assault does not have to involve penetration but can include any form of unwanted intimate contact, such as kissing, groping, or oral sex.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or has additional information should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4830 or ext. 4000 after-hours. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
