More students have been sent home from the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) due to positive COVID-19 tests.
The board reported Thursday evening that two classes and a bus cohort were dismissed from St. Andre French Immersion Catholic Elementary in Tecumseh. One class was also sent home from St. Joseph Catholic Elementary in River Canard.
Two cases were at St. Andre, and for the second day in a row, one at St. Joseph. Students sent home were told to remain until the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit provides the all-clear.
"We learned of the confirmed cases [Thursday] morning and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school Friday," said board spokesman Stephen Fields.
The health unit is in the process of notifying anyone who may have had close contact with any of the positive cases. Parents are asked to monitor their children for symptoms. If their children feel ill, they should be kept home and isolated, with a health care provider contacted for further instructions.
Parents are also asked to remain vigilant with the home screenings every morning before sending their kids to school.
As of Thursday night, there were 14 active student cases within the English Catholic board in five schools, with just one school in an outbreak, St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary. A total of 12 classes have been dismissed as a result.
Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board, there were three new student cases reported Thursday, one at Leamington District Secondary School (LDSS), one at M.D. Bennie Public School in Leamington, and the third at Sandwich West Public School in LaSalle. There are currently 28 active student cases through that board, plus two involving staff. The English public board has four schools in an outbreak, which are LDSS, D.M. Eagle Public School in Tecumseh, Essex Public School, and Riverside Secondary in Windsor.
