One arrested, one sought in Windsor thefts

Windsor police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another in a downtown break-and-enter last week.

It happened around 5 p.m. Thursday at a building on Ouellette Avenue between Riverside Drive and Pitt Street. Investigators say two men entered the complex and allegedly took items from two different businesses within the building.

Constable Darius Goze said security camera footage caught the two men as they fled the building.

On Saturday, New Year's Day, the Windsor police's Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit identified one of the suspects. On Sunday afternoon, the person was arrested without incident, on Ouellette Avenue near Elliott Street. The 40-year-old Waterloo man is charged with two counts of break-and-enter to commit theft, and possession of stolen property.

The suspect's companion is still at large, and police have released a still image of him from the security camera at the building where the thefts took place.

The man is described as balding with a slender build, wearing blue jeans, a red jacket, a black face mask, and black shoes.

Anyone who knows who the person is or with information on the thefts should call Windsor police at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4000. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
