United Way event raises $40K for youth mental health

Programs promoting the mental health of young people are getting a much-needed boost.

The United Way-Centraide Windsor Essex County has completed its second annual iMove fundraiser to support such programs. As of this week, this edition of the virtual iMove has raised $40,320 to help young people access mental health support and wellness initiatives that they may not be able to otherwise afford.

Local United Way CEO Lorraine Goddard said she's thrilled with the response from the community, even with the COVID-19 pandemic lingering.

"It is heartwarming to see the incredible enthusiasm and support of students, educators, and the community for youth mental health programs in Windsor-Essex County,” said Goddard. "We invest in programs that put prevention and wellness first for youth."

iMove is presented with the support of St. Clair College and the St. Clair College Alumni Association. The idea was for people to get up and get moving. iMove engaged 1,184 people to participate in physical activity for 440,887 minutes.

All donations stay in the Windsor-Essex community. Mental health supports are delivered through the United Way’s On Track to Success initiative, mentoring, out-of-school supports and family counselling programs. All have adapted their services to support children and youth ages 7 to 25 through COVID-19.

Complete information on the iMove fundraiser can be found on its official webpage.
