The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has turned to someone with local expertise for its new Chief Executive Officer.
The health unit announced Wednesday that it had named Dr. Ken Blanchette as the new CEO. His first day of work will be November 28.
"In Ken’s experienced and capable hands, the WECHU’s future is bright," said health unit board chair Gary McNamara in a media release. "With a team of capable and professional staff, strong leadership and management, and a course set in partnership with the University of Windsor, our community will continue to benefit from exceptional public health services under his leadership."
Blanchette currently serves as the CEO of ConnexOntario, which provides 24/7 help to those with mental health, addiction, and problem gambling issues. It is funded through the Ontario government.
He is also the current board chairman at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.
Blanchette had also previously worked at St. Clair College, serving as the Chair of Health Sciences and the Associate Vice-President of Academics. He has also served as a vice-chair for the health unit.
"I know from my time with WECHU’s Board of Health that this is an extraordinary group of dedicated nurses, professional staff, and management," said Blanchette. "I am looking forward to getting situated in this new role, sitting down with the team, and taking on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the health unit."
Blanchette succeeds Nicole Dupuis, who stepped down from the CEO position this summer. Eleanor Groh has been serving as the interim CEO.
