We're getting into rutting season, and the Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers not to veer for deer, especially after a crash in Tecumseh.
Police responded to that collision just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday on County Road 46.
The 58-year-old man from Windsor wasn't hurt but lost his driver's license for three days after he blew a warning on a roadside testing device.
The OPP said it was just one of several crashes involving deer recently.
Deer are most active in the hours around dawn and dusk, especially this time of year when they mate, and they don't limit their activities to rural roads.
"If you suddenly have a deer in your path, we encourage drivers to stay in control, reduce as much speed as possible, and whatever you do, steer straight," said Constable Steven Duguay. "By changing your direction quickly, you increase the risk of losing control, running off the roadway, and rolling your vehicle."
Police also recommend drivers slow down and keep an eye on nearby ditches and woodlots near the road. Buckle up, and remove distractions.
Remember, if you see one deer, there are likely others nearby.
