Some of Windsor's incumbent councillors are making promises on the campaign trail this week.
Ward 9 incumbent Kieran McKenzie and Ward 10 incumbent Jim Morrison want to make park safety a priority by adding more solar lights in parks and on trails.
The councillors said if re-elected they will introduce a city-wide policy to install solar lights when park renewal is planned or new trails are developed.
"It's an option that is environmentally friendly, green, and as well easy to implement because it doesn't require a hard line power connection in order for these lights to function," said McKenzie.
Both Morrison and McKenzie used ward funds over the last term of council to install solar lights on trails in their respective wards.
"By lighting them up, it just makes everybody feel a lot safer and they are a lot safer," said Morrison. "The solar lights are neat that they light up as you walk by so the light is actually geared right where you are so any movement out there, the lights will turn on."
Ward 7 incumbent Jeewen Gill said affordability is top of mind for him as he approaches the next term. He said he will hold the line on taxes and find greater efficiencies at Windsor City Hall if he's elected for another term.
Despite inflationary pressures, Gill believes the city will be able to keep taxes at the current rate with the growing tax base with recent new developments.
"We don't want to cut services, but we have to innovate or increase the tax base. With the new developments that are coming into the city that will enhance the capital money coming to the city," said Gill.
The municipal election is on October 24, 2022. A full list of candidates can be found here.
