Dilkens, Gignac promise continued road improvement

Windsor's incumbent mayor and a city councillor have promised to expand road project spending should voters grant them another term.

Mayor Drew Dilkens and Ward 6 Councillor Jo-Anne Gignac laid out a road plan Monday, both committing to expand the minor project component of the City's ten-year master plan to continue road work across Windsor.

"I’ve heard from constituents in my ward, it’s not just about filling potholes. This is about creating a dedicated fund for ‘mill and pave’ undertakings where it will make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents," said Gignac. "This kind of fund will also help our tax dollars go further, allowing City Hall to do more, smaller, residential projects each year will go a long way."

The mayor praised Gignac for her work in getting infrastructure projects done during her long tenure on Council.

"Councillor Gignac always does her homework, and she’s been making a compelling case for the residential streets in Ward 6 and across the City," said Dilkens. "We’ve done a great job investing in our main corridors. Now’s the time we turn attention to the residential streets that impact residents on a daily basis."

Within the 2022 capital budget, $1.7-billion was allocated over the next ten years for infrastructure improvement. $182 million has been spent this year alone.

With plenty of work done to improve main arteries, both Dilkens and Gignac said more attention must go to residential streets. If re-elected, both pledged to expand the minor road deficiency rehab program.

Dilkens is running against challengers Chris Holt, Benjamin Danyluk, Aaron Day, Matthew Giancola, Ernie Lamont, and Louis Vaupotic.

Gignac is seeking re-election against Ward 6 challengers Dylon Graves, Ashley Lafreniere, Brian D.H. McCurdy, Jeremy Renaud, and Beth St. Denis.

The election is Monday.
