Truck drivers reminded to stay on designated routes

With lots of development in the region, the City of Windsor has been receiving more complaints about trucks on residential streets.

The city's traffic by-law requires trucks to use approved truck routes whenever they are available and to return to those approved routes by the shortest means possible if they are not.

"These roads are designed, the width of them, the traffic controls, where they go and then the engineering, the design under the road is all increased. It's meant for truck routes," said Chief Building Official John Revell.

City of Windsor staff has reached out to developers and contractors to make sure all drivers are aware of the by-laws.

Revell said they have also contacted the Windsor Police Service and the Ministry of Transportation to increase enforcement.

"They're going to be looking for trucks that are not using truck routes and reminding them or possibly ticketing them for not using truck routes. Just to encourage truck traffic to stay to the approved routes," said Revell.

A review of the current truck routes throughout the city is underway.
