Former Windsor man officially a world record holder for riding a segway

A former Windsor resident is celebrating an official record in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Danny Halmo has dedicated this life to electric vehicles, and now, he has three world records to prove it.

He set his latest record in 2015 at the former Unconquered Sun in Windsor, where he rode a segway for 24 hours, clocking almost 217 km.

He received the official certificate earlier this week.

Before that, Halmo earned world records for the longest journey on an e-bike, when he travelled from Vancouver to Halifax, and the longest distance by electric vehicle.

He said those earlier records have now been broken, but he believes the one on the segway will stand since no one makes segways anymore.

Halmo has written a book about his passion for electric vehicles called "Ninja Mutant: History of Electric Vehicles." It's available on Kindle now, and he hopes it'll be available on Amazon by Christmas.

The book is part biographical, detailing how he overcame bipolar disorder and time on suicide watch before he found a new focus in his life with electric vehicles.

He confessed he's very excited to see his hometown embrace electric vehicle production, especially with the new EV battery plant under construction.

"The electric vehicle wave is about to break," he said.
