OPP take four drivers off the road for alleged driving impaired

Are some people just not getting the message about drinking and driving?

The Ontario Provincial Police arrested four drivers over the weekend and charged them with driving impaired.

It started Friday night with a call about a possible drunk driver on Highway 3 near Division Road in Kingsville.

Officers pulled over a vehicle just after 6 p.m., spoke with the man behind the wheel, and realized he was impaired. A roadside test confirmed their suspicions. Now a 39-year-old Leamington man faces charges.

Less than three hours later, OPP officers in Leamington investigated a minor crash on John Street and charged a 42-year-old Kingsville man.

Saturday night, officers on patrol watched as a vehicle weaving in and out of its lane on County Road 23 in Kingsville. Again, the driver appeared impaired, so they arrested a 70-year-old Lakeshore man.

Then after 5 p.m. on Sunday, the OPP received a complaint about a vehicle on County Road 46 near Naylor Side Road. During an exchange that is all too familiar for the officers, the driver admitted he had been drinking, so they charged a 43-year-old Lakeshore man.

All four drivers were issued a 90-day license suspension and had their vehicles impounded for a week.

The OPP urges the public to call 911 if they see a driver they suspect is impaired. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or leave a message online at www.catchcrooks.com.
