Road crews throughout the region are preparing for the pending winter storm.
Municipal staff are monitoring the forecast and salt trucks will be dispatched when needed.
"If you salt too early, it's not going to be effective, the rain would just wash it away," said Phong Nguy, manager of operations with the City of Windsor. "We're definitely going to monitor it. Based on the latest weather forecast, it's going to come in fairly late."
Once the snow does start to fall, six city trucks and 15 contract vehicles are ready to plow the main streets.
"We are going to have the snow plow out as soon as possible once there's accumulation on the road itself then we can start plowing," said Nguy.
Motorists are reminded to have patience around salt trucks and snow plows. Following too close to a snowplow can lead to poor visibility, and vehicles risk being hit by thrown snow, salt, or rocks.
Once snow starts to accumulate, residents are asked to avoid parking on the road where possible to allow plows to clear the roads properly.
“Keeping roads safe is our top priority during these storm events so we are asking all residents to help us by reducing barriers to our snow-clearing operations, which means moving parked vehicles and other obstacles from local roads.” said Jeff Wilson, Division Leader - Roads, Parks, and Facilities with the Municipality of Lakeshore.
Trucks will move into residential areas once main roads are clear and more than 10 centimeters of snow have fallen.
All sidewalks in commercial areas are to be cleared within four hours after the snowfall ends and within 12 hours in residential areas.
