Candidates running in the City of Windsor

The nomination period is over and the election period has officially begun.

In the City of Windsor, over 50 people have submitted their names to run for a position on city council.

There are seven candidates vying for the mayor's spot. Drew Dilkens is seeking his third term with Ward 4 Councillor Chris Holt running against him. Benjamin Danyluk, Aaron Day, Matthew Giancola, Ernie Lamont, and Louis Vaupotic will also be on the ballot.

With no incumbents in the race, the ballots for Ward 3 and Ward 4 will be quite crowded.

In Ward 3, Renaldo Agostino, Katherine Cameron, Helmi Charif, Angela Fitzpatrick, Nick Kolasky, Kennedy Mangera, James McCarte, Cynthia Van Vrouwerff and Brian Yeomans have all submitted their nomination papers.

Giovanni "John" Abati, Edy Haddad, Gregory Heil, Matt Marchand, Mark McKenzie, Jake Rondot, Kristen Siapas, and Patrick Sutherland will be on the ballot for Ward 4.

In Ward 1, Darcie Renaud is running against incumbent Fred Francis who served two terms on council.

Ward 2 incumbent Fabio Costante has three competitors for the west-end seat. Myriam Faraj, Sam Romano, and Chris Soda are all running for the position.

Ward 5 incumbent Ed Sleiman is going for his fourth term around the table. Currie Souilliere, Alessandro Didone, Caitlyn Desmarais, Ken Acton, and Richard St. Denis are hoping to take over the position.

Already the longest sitting councillor around the table, Jo-Anne Gignac has filed to run again in Ward 6. She's been the councillor for the Riverside area since 2003. Hoping to change things up in the ward are Dylon Graves, Ashley Lafreniere, Brian D-H McCurdy, Jeremy Renaud, and Beth St. Denis.

Ward 7 incumbent Jeewen Gill is hoping to be re-elected. He first won the seat in 2020 when Irek Kusmierczyk was elected in the Federal Election. Gill is up against Sydney Brouillard-Coyle, Greg Lemay, Angelo Marignani, and Sophia Sevo.

There are only two candidates running for the Ward 8 seat. Incumbent Gary Kaschak and Gemma Grey-Hall who ran as the NDP candidate for Windsor-Tecumseh in the last provincial election.

In Ward 9, Kieran McKenzie is hoping to be reelected for a second term. He's up against Hariner Cheema and Dan Mokrzycki.

Finally, in Ward 10, incumbent Jim Morrison is up against former councillor Paul Borrelli as well as Walid Chafchak and Mark Masanovich.

The list of candidates will not be certified until next week.

The municipal election is on October 24, 2022.
