You might notice driving along Hwy. 401, there are signs announcing your entrance into Lakeshore and Tecumseh, but there are none for LaSalle.
That's about to change.
LaSalle Mayor Crystal Meloche said councillors approved spending $30,000 to install two signs on the highway near exits that take drivers into the town.
They won't be fancy like the ones for Tecumseh and Lakeshore, but they'll do the job.
"With the locations that we were given, it didn't make sense for us to spend almost $200,000 on signage," she said. "We've decided to go with the ones that are provided, the blue signs."
Along the westbound lanes, a sign will go up near the Howard Avenue overpass. Eastbound, the second sign will be before the exit for Todd Lane.
"The benefit to us doing it this way is, we pay for the initial sign and upkeep and care is taken care of by the MTO [Ministry of Transportation], so it's kind of a better position for us to be in," Meloche explained.
Former Mayor Ken Antaya first approached the Ministry of Transportation about signage, but Meloche said the timing works out.
"We're trying to build this area that welcomes tourists, especially with our new waterfront, and there are only a couple areas where you can get off that 401 and get right into the Town of LaSalle," she said.
Meloche said the Ministry of Transportation could have the signs posted within a few months.
