A pair from Windsor have been dealt a lengthy list of charges stemming from an incident involving several weapons, including a loaded firearm, in Sudbury last weekend.
At around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a weapons complaint in the northern Ontario city's downtown. Upon arrival, police learned that two men had reportedly approached another individual when one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a knife.
Greater Sudbury police say witnesses told officers the pair of suspects left in a vehicle. No injuries were reported. Later on, police stopped a vehicle containing the suspects.
"Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment. Officers attempted to use an approved screening device, however the man refused, and he was placed under arrest for Fail to Comply with Demand," read a statement from Greater Sudbury police.
While searching the vehicle, police say officers found a loaded handgun.
The two accused were later determined to be from Windsor. One of the men was also found to be in breach of a release order and a suspended driver.
As a result the pair of Windsorites, both 33-years-old, face charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and occupying a vehicle while knowing there's restricted weapon inside.
The driver faces additional charges of failing to comply with a demand and driving while suspended.
Both of the accused were held in custody overnight and appeared in court last Sunday. The pair are scheduled to make another court appearance in Sudbury on Thursday.
