Tornado confirmed in Chatham-Kent

A group from Western University that detects and documents tornadoes has concluded the South Buxton area was hit by a tornado late Thursday afternoon.

On Monday, the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) reported South Buxton was hit by an EF1 tornado after a survey team investigated reported damage in the area and found evidence for a tornado in that location.

The group said the over land tornado hit at 4:50 p.m. and damaged several roofs, homes, barns, trees, and crops in the South Buxton and Dealtown areas.

No injuries were reported.

NTP said the tornado started northeast of South Buxton and travelled to the east-southeast at an estimated maximum wind speed of 175 km/h for 10.5 kilometres with a maximum path width of 850 metres.

Deer Run Golf Course in Blenheim was closed on Friday to cleanup after the storm, but reopened on Saturday.

"We are grateful everyone is okay," they posted on social media. "Just a bit of cleanup ahead of us."

A weaker EF0 tornado also touched down in Petrolia.
