The Municipality of Lakeshore is gathering resident input on excessive noise.
It's conducting a comprehensive review of its Noise By-law and has launched an online survey.
It's also holding an open house at the Atlas Tube Centre on August 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
"Some level of noise is a part of everyday life, but when noise becomes excessive, it can impact the quality of life for our residents and visitors," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "Sharing your feedback will help us understand the impact of excessive noise on community members and where they stand on potential regulations."
The survey will close at the end of August.
The municipality is considering using decibel limits for specific categories of sound. Municipal by-law enforcement officers and the Ontario Provincial Police respond to noise complaints. They could use decibel measurement devices to determine if a noise contravenes the by-law.
While municipalities in Ontario have the authority to impose by-laws to prevent or control noise disturbances, there are exceptions. Other legislation may override local rules. For example, noise from normal farming practices is except.
