The federal government is helping Essex Non-Profit Homes renovate four homes.
The $499,990 will be used to upgrade the insulation, replace HVAC systems, install new heat recovery systems, replace windows, and install LED lighting.
The project expects to achieve a 54 per cent reduction in energy use, 76 per cent reduction in greenhouse emissions, and a 14 per cent reduction in tenant utility bills.
“Today’s announcement is another example of how our government is delivering on affordability while fighting climate change and creating good jobs in the skilled trades. These retrofit initiatives will help lower energy costs, reduce emissions, and help not-for-profit homes become more comfortable and climate resilient," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.
Essex Non-Profit Homes owns and rents out 120 single-family houses in the town of Essex. They are rented to those in need of affordable housing.
If these retrofit projects are successful, the organization plans to expand the initiative to all of its homes.
The government is supporting similar projects in Hamilton and London.
