Visitors to downtown Windsor will hear a variety of street sounds on Saturdays this month.
The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) is presenting Buskers on the Block, a new initiative celebrating the diversity of Windsor-Essex music, art, and culture.
From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each Saturday in August, a group of buskers, or street performers, will present their unique sounds in the heart of downtown.
"Ouellette Avenue will be transformed into a vibrant stage, alive with a range of performances by local musicians to cater to every musical preference, highlighting the rich diversity of musical expression," read a release from the DWBIA.
The first group on Saturday will include percussionist Preston Adams, musician Bethany D'Alimonte, guitarist Bilal Nasser, saxophone player Theodore Adams, and Ray Stern.
The DWBIA has also put the call out for artists to participate throughout August. Two time slots are open each Saturday, the first from 5 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., and the second from 7:15 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
"The DWBIA understands the enchanting spell buskers cast," said DWBIA Chairman Chris MacLeod. "Their talents can turn city corners into cultural epicenters. This magic has been witnessed in cities across Canada, and now, it’s coming to Windsor, igniting joy, inspiring curiosity, and fostering a sense of connection among residents and visitors, which makes downtown a buzzing hub of creativity and culture."
Performance spots are on Ouellette Avenue, at Riverside Drive, University Avenue, Maiden Lane West, and Tuscarora Avenue.
