The Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed two tornadoes in Essex County after severe thunderstorms last Thursday night.
Researchers at Western University say an EF0 tornado touched down on Bloomfield Road and travelled 11.6 km to Howard Avenue near Concession Road 8. At the same time, a second tornado, measuring EF-1, struck Tecumseh.
Wind speeds of the Windsor twister measured 125 km/h, strong enough to uproot trees and tear the shingles off roofs.
"Radar suggests the entire event took less than ten minutes, giving a tornado motion of nearly 80 km/h," said a report from the project.
No injuries are reported in that tornado or the one that touched down in Tecumseh and Lakeshore the same evening.

The second twister came down on Centennial Drive near Riverside Drive East and made its way southeast for 14 km, hitting Elmstead and Pleasant Park in Lakeshore. It had a maximum width of 700 m and had a wind speed of 145 km/h.
"A ground/drone survey found damage along a narrow path, including collapsed barns, snapped power poles, damaged grain bins, trees and branches down, and roof shingles removed on numerous homes," noted the report on the Tecumseh tornado. "The track of surveyed damage did continue further southeast, but damage became sporadic. Additional analysis is required to know if it is related to this tornado or something else, possibly a second tornado."
