Three Windsor-Essex beaches under a bacteria warning

With Labour Day approaching, warnings have been issued for three Windsor-Essex beaches for elevated bacteria levels.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has placed the beaches under a "code yellow" after weekly beach water testing uncovered E.coli levels higher than provincial limits.

The beaches are Sandpoint in Windsor, and Cedar and Cedar Island beaches in Kingsville.

Tests showed the bacteria level at Cedar Beach at 363, 343 at Cedar Island, and 297 at Sandpoint.

Swimming is discouraged at the three beaches as E.coli may cause digestive-based illness.

The remaining five public beaches in Windsor-Essex tested within safe provincial guidelines and are fully open for the long weekend.

Complete information about beach testing can be found on the health unit's official website.
