WIFF presents "The Magic of Make-Believe", documentary about Mr. Dressup

The Windsor International Film Festival doesn't start until October 6, but you won't have to wait to see a new documentary about children's TV icon Mr Dressup.

"Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe" is coming early to the silver screen in Windsor.

The documentary, exploring the life and career of Ernie Coombs, had its world premiere recently at the Toronto Film Festival.

The feature-length film dives into the origins and history of one of Canada's favourite children's television shows, built on a legacy of kindness, patience, inclusiveness and creativity. The program aired 4,000 episodes over 29 years on the CBC.

The documentary reveals Coombs's two greatest passions, entertaining others and his family. It includes interviews with puppeteer Judith Lawrence, who brought Casey and Finnegan to life, and early collaborator Fred Rogers.

"We're excited to be working with Amazon Studios to bring this nostalgic title to our audiences in Windsor," said WIFF Executive Director and Chief Programmer Vincent Georgie. "It will be a joy to celebrate the inspiring and heartwarming story of Mr. Dressup on-scene."

The screening is part of the WIFF Presents series. Tickets are on sale now at www.windsorfilmfestival.com and are available until 30 minutes before 7 p.m. on September 27, when the show begins.
