Following numerous incidents involving public nuisance behaviour, the Town of Tecumseh may enhance security at Lakewood Park South.
The incidents, which include loud music, open alcohol, public urination, and people climbing onto the roof of the shed, are more frequent on the weekends during warmer weather. The Ontario Provincial Police has responded to 78 calls.
The town has taken some measures already, including installing a fence between the park shed and residential areas, improving lighting, planting plants to prevent people from walking near the residential fences, and hiring the Commissionaires. It hasn't helped, and when security guards confronted some of the suspects, the situation escalated to the point guards felt unsafe.
Councillors mulled over four options on Tuesday night, and a report should be coming to the council during budget deliberations.
The town is considering a permanent parking barrier arm system at the entrance to the parking lot at Lakewood Park South and Lakewood Park North. The barrier arm would prevent vehicles from entering the parking lot between 10 p.m. and 7 p.m.
It's also considering security cameras installed on the lighting stands in both parking lots and around the shed.
