Optional plumbing service plans now available to Lakeshore residents

Residents of Lakeshore can now join a voluntary service plan designed to help with the cost of plumbing repairs.

Earlier this year, Lakeshore Council endorsed the Sewer and Water Warranty Program, offered through Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC). The program offers protection for water and sewer lines connected from a resident's property to the Municipality's water system.

"We are thrilled to endorse this service as a cost-effective way to support homeowners in protecting their properties," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "As a council, we have made significant progress on our flood mitigation and protection framework, and this program complements those investments very well.

Bailey pointed out that water and sewer line repairs are the property owner's responsibility, a fact many are not aware of. Most homeowners' insurance policies do not offer protection.

"We want to ensure that residents understand their responsibility to maintain and repair their service lines before they’re hit with a costly repair. The program’s educational aspect will help our residents prepare themselves and doesn’t cost the Municipality of Lakeshore anything."

The low-cost, no-deductible plans offer access to licenced, insured, and experienced contractors.

"A SLWC service plan is a smart way for homeowners to prepare for a home emergency. These plans take the worry, inconvenience, and financial burden out of the repair," said SLWC General Manager Mike Van Horne. "Lakeshore homeowners with a plan can call for service 24/7, and they get peace of mind that they won’t be financially responsible for a covered home repair emergency."

Residents will soon receive information in the mail, and the program is strictly optional, with no obligation to register. Mailings will include the Municipality logo to reflect Council's endorsement, and no public money is supporting it.

Complete information about SLWC plans can be found by calling 1-844-616-8444 or visiting the official SLWC website.
