A plan to redevelop a park in Lakeshore has been given a green light.
Members of Lakeshore Council approved Tuesday night a concept plan for Stoney Point Community Park.
"It’s incredible to see how far this project has come since the community visioning process started in the spring of 2022," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "What we saw [Tuesday night] was a culmination of hundreds of comments from a passionate community, but the design is not final, and it is not the last time residents will have their say."
The public consultation included the unveiling of two draft concept plans in September, with a period for feedback open until early October.
Bailey said the process is ongoing.
"In 2024, we will return to the community to seek additional input for detailed design," said Bailey. "In particular, we want to hear ideas about how to incorporate community history and public art into the future of the park."
The mayor added that the concept plan worked well with another project, the redevelopment of the former Stoney Point Tavern site. Councillors signed off earlier this year on the purchase of that land, and the former tavern was demolished soon after.
